The individual decison-making process has a logical sequence, although our feelings can sometimes cloud the steps to making a solid decision. It can be helpful then to pause, and begin at the beginning, going through each of these decison-making steps one at a time.
1. Define: Define and clarify the decision to be made.
2. Engage: Engage your brain to gather pertinent information.
3. Create: Create many solutions by using open-ended thinking and brainstorming.
4. Integrate: Integrate and merge similar ideas, then prioritize.
5. Discern: Discern or select a solution by looking at its strengths and weaknesses and your willingness to put the selected solution into action. Be sure the information you gathered supports your choice.
6. Embark: Embark by making a step-by-step plan that will help you act successfully on the solution or alternative you have chosen.
